Exodus 38:7 And he put the poles through the rings on the sides of the altar, to carry it with them; he made it hollow, with boards. (RSV)
God gave Moses specific instructions on how to build the altar of the tabernacle, which also included the ability to move the altar when needed.
Altars were holy as the Lord’s power was present to receive offerings. For instance, in Genesis 8:20-21, Noah built an altar to the Lord and sacrificed burnt offerings that had a pleasing aroma to the Lord. And the Israelites’ high priest yearly offered animal blood at the altar for his own sins and the people’s sins (Hebrews 9:6-8).
Altars were sacred places of covenants between God and His people. Now, could you imagine having one altar travelling around the entire world for burnt offering sacrifices?
Not at all; that’s why we thank God for sending His only son Jesus Christ to shed His blood to secure our redemption forever. We don’t have to carry altars around anymore because Jesus is the perfect sacrifice, and He entered the perfect tabernacle in heaven, which is not made by human hands.
Jesus is now the mediator between God and people. Henceforth, today, let someone know that they can receive Jesus and forgiveness everywhere they are.
