Joshua 24:15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
We are always serving someone or something in our lives. We can serve our appetite by always desiring nice food or pleasure. We can serve our drive to be appreciated and liked, by focussing on our social media profile and the amount of likes we get. Some people serve their wallet. Others serve their hobby. Or we serve the agenda of other people. Everyone is serving someone.
The question is: who?
Who are we serving?
Joshua made it clear that it was the Lord who had delivered the people. It was the Lord who had guided and protected them. It was the Lord who had blessed them. Now he calls the people to fear the Lord. This is a choice. Many people are delivered by God and still end up fearing and following someone else. Joshua made it clear: “You choose.”
His own choice was made: “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord!”
In a world where a spirit of fear is trying to seize people, make the choice: Whatever happens, me and my house, we will only serve the Lord.
