As the Lord commanded him

Exodus 40:19 Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, as the Lord commanded him.

Moses did everything “as the Lord commanded him”. We read that phrase at least seven times in this chapter. He did not neglect to do what God told him, nor did he do it as he himself saw fit. He did it, as the Lord commanded him.

Frank Sinatra once sang, “I did it my way”, but for the Christian, our song is “I will do it Your way”. This we can only do, when we die to self. The Christian life is a life where we listen to the Lord, and do what He says, even when we don’t understand.

We forgive, as the Lord has commanded us.

We love, as the Lord has commanded us.

We give, as the Lord has commanded us.

Ps. Phil Pringle wrote a book about this, “the parable of the dog”. Just as the best dogs simply do what the master commands them, so the most fruitful Christians, will simply do what Jesus has told them. Can this be your attitude? Can this be my attitude?

7 “Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? Won’t he rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’” (Luke 17:7-10)
