Leviticus 13:45-46 Anyone with such a defiling disease must wear torn clothes, let their hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of their face and cry out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’ 46 As long as they have the disease they remain unclean. They must live alone; they must live outside the camp.
As a pastor, I am concerned about the current social distancing measures. Almost daily I hear stories from people in and outside of our church who have been negatively affected mentally, relationally and psychologically by these measures. I believe that is because the Bible says it is not good for mankind to be isolated and alone. Research has also shown that people will develop a bad immune system when they are socially distanced from other people. It takes only 10 days before these negative effects set in…
There are instances of social distancing in the Bible. We do not see generic social distancing nor that healthy people are being told to distance themselves (as is currently the case in our society). In the Bible, only the sick were quarantined. They even had to cry out ‘unclean’ as some sort of pre-Bluetooth signal to their environment.
God knows what is best for humanity. He made us. Let us as Christians try to influence policy makers and governors. To quarantine the healthy, is not healthy. To socially distance from other people, is not healthy. Let us see who is really sick, and only have them quarantine themselves. Let us pray for them to get better. Let us live as God has intended.
