Get ready to move to a new land by letting go of the old

Joshua 1:2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.”

Many people know verse 3 where God says “every place your foot treads I will give to you”. However, before Joshua can set his foot into the new land, he needs to let go of the old. God had to remind Joshua that Moses was dead, as if Joshua didn’t knew that! But Joshua was hesitating to get going. He was lingering. Holding on to the old.

Imagine that you want to go on holidays to another country. You pack your car, attach the caravan to the car, but then you attach your caravan to your house, because you like your house so much. You will net get very far!

This was Joshua’s attitude. He needed to be reminded by God to let go of the old. Likewise, you and I cannot enter a new land when we can’t let go of the old. Sometimes this means we literally have to throw stuff away that reminds us of the old. We have to literally program our navigation apps to the new destination and DELETE the old destination.

If we can’t do this, we will never enter into all that God has for us.
