But who is able to build a temple for him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain him? Who then am I to build a temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before him? (2 Chronicles 2:6)
It’s amazing that God wants to dwell with people. He is a “high and mighty” God, yet He chooses to come near and become a “friend of sinners”. God, in the Old Testament, said that He does not live in a building made by human hands. He also said He did not want to live in a temple of stone. That is because no temple can contain Him, as Solomon declares in this verse.
How much more amazing is it that in the New Testament, our bodies are called a temple of the living God! The heavens cannot contain His glory, yet He chooses to dwell in us Christians. This should make us live with awe and reference, looking after our bodies and souls, as His spirit makes His dwelling among us.
Thank you God, for coming so near!
