Exodus 33:16 How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth. (NLT)
The Lord was mad at the people of Israel after they built and worshipped the golden calf as their god. God didn’t want to travel among the Israelites because of their stubborn and rebellious behaviour.
Then Moses was pleading for the children of Israel, asking God to show His glorious presence and keep walking with them because without God, they lost their identity.
Think about it:
- God chose Israelites.
- Israelites were delivered from captivity by God’s power.
- God made a covenant to protect Israelites against their enemies.
- Israelites could only inherit the promised land because of God’s covenant with their forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
The Israelites were favoured because of the Lord’s presence. And, today we have the privilege to have the Spirit of the Lord within us to guide our steps. God is always with us, and the world will be able to see Jesus in us when we choose to live to reflect God’s character and make God our priority.
God is waiting to sustain our Christian walks personally, and He promised that He would give us rest in every step along the way.
All we have to do is to obey and surrender our lives to Jesus Christ!
