Proverbs 16:26 The thought of hunger keeps the workers working so that they can eat. (EASY)
What are you hungry for? What is more important for you to eat? Is eternal life, and fellowship with God on the top of things you are currently working for?
One thing I wasn’t working hard for was fasting; because I leaned on my own understanding where I believed that it was close to impossible for me to pray & fast (from food) while working because of my line of work that requires a lot of focus and energy. Please note that it is okay if you can’t fast from food for health reasons or others! However, for me I didn’t have a clear motive to fast yet. I viewed fasting as more of a burden than a fellowship with Christ.
Everything we do is not to get Something from God, but Everything we do is for God because He is Everything to us. Whether that is fasting, giving or taking care of others. God has already given Everything to us (John 3:16).
And in my case, I indeed fasted from food (while drinking a lot of water). The thought of hunger (hunger for God’s presence than my belly) kept me working (fasting) so that I can eat of God’s love and sanctification (Proverbs 16:26).
So, how do we keep it going in this broken world full of distractions? Well, we turn to the Lord for help in everything we do, and we will be Successful! Christ followers, we walk by faith through quiet time filled with Bible reading (Joshua 1:8), Prayer (Philippians 4:6), Fasting (Matthew 6:16-18), Worship (Psalm 30:4)…,and in return we can overflow God’s love in the world around us.
I can testify that the days I was fasting, I had really great days at work and I believe that good things happen as we continue to learn to Trust and Experience God MORE.
