2 Samuel 22:7 But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I cried to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry reached his ears. (NLT)
Often we portray God according to our own understanding, but David’s song of praise reminds us that we serve a God of relationships. He is a God who made and continues to make a wide path for our feet to keep them from slipping; isn’t God the greatest friend, leader and protector? (2 Samuel 22:37)
We all agree that there wouldn’t be any relationship without communication. Therefore, when we pray, let’s be expectant to hear from God, for the Lord is listening to our every word and thought of joy or sadness.
When we read the passage in 2 Samuel 22:7, we are reminded of three essential truths:
- God is Holy: the word sanctuary derives from its original meaning of a sacred place. Sacred simply means holy, sanctified, and God in His mightiness is the true definition of holiness.
- God cares: because we live in a sinful world, many will connect power/authority with indifferent attitudes, but thank Jesus, we serve a God who cares. God is attentive to our every move, and He is reaching down from heaven to rescue us from our distress.
- God will accomplish what He promised: It is in human nature to seek control, but every time we choose our ways instead of God’s truth, we are one step away from God‘s promises. Victory in Christ might look different, but it is important to remember that God’s way is perfect and true (2 Samuel 22:31).
If a Holy God in His holiness cares about me to the level to send His only son Jesus Christ to die a cruel death for my mistakes and transgressions, I must rejoice in this life and live to bring glory to God!
God wants to build a relationship with you, and He is always listening to you, but are you willing to hear back?
As we step into a new season (spring) in which seeds take root and vegetation begins to grow, I pray that you also choose to rejoice in the Lord and grow in your relationship with God. Take time in the word of God and cry out to Jesus, for He is listening and ready to rescue you.
