1 Samuel 27:7-8 David lived in Philistine territory a year and four months. 8 Now David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites and the Amalekites.
Often we do not realise what someone in a position of leadership has gone through in his life – before being promoted to a place of influence. Long before David became king, he was a fugitive, running for his life and even living in another country for over a year. This became his making, not his breaking.
David lived “in enemy territory” for a year and four months. This is quite a long period. The “corona period” all over the world has not even lasted this long yet. Look at how David dealt with this period in his life and how he kept a great attitude. “Now David and his men went up and raided…”
Rather than sitting still, complaining or day dreaming, David chose to make the most of his time in enemy territory. He lived on the front foot, not defensive, but offensive. This is a choice he made. And I believe this is one of the attitude’s that made him a great leader.
When we enter difficult seasons in life, we cannot always control what’s happening around us. However, we can control how we respond. David had the attitude that is being described in Romans 8, he chose to be “more than a conqueror”. Whatever situation you find yourself in, you can choose to praise, you can choose to tithe, you can choose to pray, you can choose to call someone. Make the decision fitting to a conqueror. Cause that is who you are.
