Deuteronomy 17:18-20a When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. 19 It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees 20 and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law
The king of Israel had to follow a Higher authority. By reading God’s words, he would stay on track and not depart from godly principles. When authority is not submitted to God’s authority, it is easy to start lording it over others and to deviate from godly principles. The people under such an authority will suffer.
It follows that the best leaders are those who follow God’s kingdom principles. The best governors are those who subject their authority to a Higher authority. When authority ends with those in authority, beware. The people will suffer.
Pray for the authorities in your city today. When the righteous prosper, the city will prosper. And when the authorities follow godly principles, the city will prosper!
