Hebrews 3:6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
Have you ever heard it said, ‘Let’s go to the House of the Lord’? Or, ‘great to be in the House again’? What is often referred to, is the building, or the meeting. Note, however that the New Testament does not call the building the house, nor the meeting.
‘Christ is faithful over God’s house… and we are his house.’
We, the people gathered in the name of Christ, are God’s house. The meeting is not the house, but we do meet. The building is not the house, but a building does help to meet in. The people are the house.
Note that the people are identified as ‘we’, not as ‘I’. ‘I am God’s house’ is not true. ‘I am a temple of the Holy Spirit’ is true. (See 1 Cor. 6:19) When these different little temples gather together, then we become a House, in which God’s Spirit dwells (1 Cor. 3:16).
We are His House. God wants to live in His House. He is present in His House. He gathers us at the table, in His House. We are His House!
