Romans 14: 3, 13 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.
The Roman church had both Jews and non-Jewish people (gentiles), and because of the cultural differences, there were divisions within the church about what was lawful and what was not. Therefore, Paul wrote letters to the Roman church to explain that the only way to unity is through the understanding of the Gospel (the good news about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection).
When looking at today’s world, it is incredible to see people’s uniqueness in characters, looks, cultures and more. Not one human on the planet is identical to another human; which creates the danger of criticism because the other person sitting opposite you might do things that you don’t necessarily approve of and vice versa.
Then the question is: How could people so different serve one God in one accord?
What fills the gap between our differences? Paul clearly says that it is LOVE; Love for God and one another. We are all different, and we sometimes have different convictions about various things which is okay because we all have different callings. However, this is not an opportunity to turn a blind eye to sin because Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
Even though we are free to do certain things, loving our neighbours means abstaining from something that could be a stumbling block or obstacle to the Christian walk of a brother or sister.
Every time you are about to be judgemental, remember that we are all different and Jesus (the true meaning of LOVE) closes the gap between our differences.
Let’s help each other be more like Christ for LOVE overcomes Judgements!
