While-we-wait

Genesis 30:1 When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister. So she said to Jacob, “Give me children, or I’ll die!”

Jacob was married to Leah and Rachel. Leah was able to give Jacob children, but Rachel was barren. Even though Rachel couldn’t bear children, Jacob loved her more than Leah. However, Rachel focused on jealousy which negatively affected her attitude in the waiting.

In life, we have two options, either we focus on God or our problems. Rachel wanted to die because she didn’t have children, and she was jealous of her sister, who did. Rachel was seeking blessings to be praised by people which magnified her problems and later on affected her decisions.

On the other hand, focusing on God means that we want God more than our prayer requests. Not having what we desire or having to wait for what we want doesn’t change the nature of God. God is love, and he wants the best for us. Therefore, we need first to focus our eyes on Jesus, and he will give us peace and fulfilment as we wait.

Let’s not have Rachel’s attitude while we wait but let’s praise God because he is the Lord of all our circumstances.

Prayer of the day: Lord, thank you that we will always rejoice, pray and give you thanks in all circumstances in our lives; for this is your will. Teach us to wait well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
